Crawfish Boil: How to Eat Crawfish

This was a lively event with crawfish, shrimp, cakes, and cookies!

How to Eat Crawfish

1. Remove the head (if you prefer): hold the top of the crawfish with one hand, hold the other end in your hand above the tail, twist so that the tail separates from the head.

2. Use your fingers to pinch the end of the tail with one hand, then pull the meat out with the other hand.

a checkered table cloth
a bottle of wine
a wine corker
wine glasses
a small decanter of liquid soap or vinegar to remove any wine stains
collapsable water bottles
cloth napkins and

I cooked a Chinese dinner with asparagus and crab salad, with a big cup of steaming wonton soup. The wonton soup is a family recipe with pork, spinach, garlic, scallion, sherry wine, and sesame oil. I was looking for a sweet ending to the meal, why not Ginger Cookies? These cookies are an adaptation of a friend’s recipe, topped with sanding sugar.

Adventure! Costa Rica

Homemade fig cake

I took an adventurous trip to Costa Rica, complete with parasailing, wild animals, and zip lining. The people of Costa Rica were warm and gracious enough to share with me their traditional recipes and local foods. These cookies are in honor of that trip and their tropical fruit of apricot.

This baked version is hard to outdo---with a light texture and tossed in confectioner's sugar.  The perfect nibble to wake up to on a weekend with a glass of milk and a side of homemade jam.  Kreppels came to the Americas via German immigrants in Argentina.
