"Why not build a campaign tieing this three-door concept to th$50 Retail Challenge? Call it The 3/50 Project, supporting local business in small, easily consumable bites.
The goal is simple: Ask consumers to frequent three local brick and mortar businesses they don’t want to see disappear, and to spend a very affordable $50 per month doing it.
Could be those three.  Another three.  Doesn’t matter. It’s about funneling revenue back into local business.  You know-—the folks that pour money back into the community via commercial property taxes, payroll taxes, sales tax, and salaries (not to mention all that good will by way of volunteer time, silent auctions, sponsored softball teams, workshops, book signings, etc.)."   - Cinda Baxter.

L.A. Fashion Week:  Yotam Solomon and Campanile

On my way to a party for L.A. Fashion Week.  Yotam Soloman is the youngest designer to ever show in L.A. Fashion Week.  He started with men's wear, which lead to starting his own company.  Yotam's party is being held at the historic Charlie Chaplin building, now Campanile.  I'll let you know how it goes!

Students Need More Than Physical Education by Jesse Bluma

Pointe Viven's mission is to "liberate taste".  Viven is Spanish for living life.  Pointe Viven is for those that wish to experience living life with good taste in food and every other way.   Teaching children this same concept is important.

Please contact your state legislator and the governor to help improve education and
state spending of tax dollars.  Contact information is listed below.  A sample email letter is also below.

"Students in California  rank 49th out of 50 in education (Thomas Mortenson).  28% of students in  California  are overweight and unfit (California Center  for Public Health Advocacy).  These statistics are realities, despite the enactment of state educational frameworks, standards, increased teacher qualifications, and state laws passed in the 1980s requiring 200 minutes of physical education every two weeks (Ed Codes 51210, 51222, and 51225.3).  Diet and nutrition plays the largest role in health, wellness, and weight loss, more than physical activity (Internal Medicine Journal).

California  has approximately 10,290 schools receiving Title One funds (West Ed).  Title One funds are federal tax dollars targeted for schools with large populations of migrant students with limited English proficiency.  Approximately 42% of schools in California are in Program Improvement (West Ed).  These schools are in Program Improvement, receiving intensive support, because students and student subgroups are not making 'Adequately Yearly Progress'.

We want what is in the best interest of all students, parents, families, and tax payers.  Time, energy, and resources should be shifted to improve student health and learning.  Please amend state law to require physical education to be 120 minutes/two weeks.  This will allow more time for the learning of health and nutrition.  Improved health and wellness will help students perform better in school and on state tests.  All schools will benefit, especially schools receiving Title One funds, schools in Program Improvement, 'pre-Title One', and 'pre-Program Improvement'.  Teachers and students across the state will have more time, energy, and resources to emphasize health education, English language instruction, parent education, and parental education.  This common goal will improve learning, health, and California’s educational rank."

For the best experience here are a few tips and reminders.

First, it is important to communicate what you are looking for, what you don't like, and ideas you have seen.  Good communication, especially good listening, is key to a successful experience.  Think what, when, and where.

Next, it is essential we discuss the mood, feeling, and what you envision.  Formal, beachy elegant, Latin, etc.

After committing to a concept a price point will be determined for the number of items, delivery, shipping, and other necessities.

Thank you,

Jesse Bluma

Lemon Zest Popcorn Recipe by Jesse Bluma

This bright recipe is simply enjoyable.
Lemon zest is an excellent ingredient with many sweet and savory dishes.  The infusion of lemon with olive oil adds a slight boost of bright flavor to the grainy flavor of popcorn.  Additionally, the use of lemon on foods such as popcorn will lessen the need for sodium.  Expand your popcorn répertoire with this recipe and have fun.

Ingredients

¼ cup extra virgin olive oil

1 batch of popcorn

Directions

In a small pan, combine the extra virgin olive oil and zest of 1 lemon, stir on low heat for 15 minutes.

Remove the pan from the stove, turn off the heat, and cover for 2 hours.

Strain the cooled mixture, set aside.

Make 1 batch of popcorn according to manufacturer's directions.

Put scoops of popcorn in a large bowl, sprinkling each scoop with the lemon infused olive oil.

Zest the second lemon over the popcorn and lemon infused olive oil mixture to garnish.

College Mentors for Kids: Deserves a cookie!

College Mentors for Kids
Fame Cast Party:  Villa Lounge

"In 1995, Indiana University students Heidi Schmidt and Kristin Huang were united by a common goal: to improve children's lives by encouraging education. Heidi and Kristin created a program model that matched the needs of first- through fourth-grade students with the talents and resources of college undergraduates like themselves.
chapter.  After a year of planning, College Mentors for Kids opened its doors as an official nonprofit organization in 1996. Pilot programs at Indiana University and Butler University paired mentors, or "Big Buddies," with 30 kids in the fall of 1996. The following summer, College Mentors for Kids opened a headquarters office and established four new chapters. In 2008, College Mentors for Kids expanded to include first- through eighth-grade students."
