Thank You to Operation International Children
Operation International Children
Actor Gary Sinise (Forrest Gump, Apollo 13) and author Laura Hillenbrand (Seabiscuit: An American Legend) launched Operation International Children, a program that enables American students to send School Supply Kits to other students around the world.
Kept in one-room buildings without air conditioning, fans, heaters, windows, solid floors, or even toilets, students lack the basic supplies that American children take for granted. Libraries and books are almost nonexistent. Without these basic tools of education, children face an uphill struggle to learn.
"Imagine sending your child to a school in which there are virtually no books, no pencils, no paper, no blackboards," says Hillenbrand. This is the reality for many children. The need for help is so great and widespread, for some 1,500 schools.
Thanks to all your excellent efforts I was able to send 30 school supply kits to children around the globe. I appreciate your help in donating these important items so children may learn and grow. The friends of Jesse Bluma at Pointe Viven are awesome.
OIC successfully delivered over 340,000 school supply kits, shoes, backpacks, sports equipment, and toys to children in need across the globe. Sinise notes that service members frequently expressed gratitude for the program's support.
"The goodwill demonstrated by our troops through Operation International Children’s outreach has aided in the fight for the hearts and minds for nearly a decade." - Gary Sinise
OIC exemplified the spirit of American generosity and compassion, extending help to children in need both domestically and internationally. The program fostered positive relationships between U.S. troops and local communities, leaving a legacy of goodwill.
Education empowers individuals and strengthens communities; OIC recognized this by equipping children with the necessary tools for learning. Gary Sinise's leadership and the commitment of countless individuals made OIC a successful and impactful initiative.
Operation International Children stands as a testament to the power of action and the profound impact of providing educational resources to children facing adversity. The program's legacy of generosity and compassion continues to inspire, reminding us of the importance of supporting education and fostering hope for future generations.
Operation International Children sent a final shipment of school supplies in September of 2013.
