Bonaventure Hotel and Bona Vista Lounge
Many readers rely on Jesse Bluma at Pointe Viven as a source for how-to and where-to regarding cookery, culture, and community. We all know dining out should be an excellent experience. Looking for a new happy hour spot? The Bona Vista Lounge is worth checking out if you live in the Los Angeles area or plan to visit. It is located in downtown L.A., across from Border Grill.
The Bonaventure was designed by John C. Portman, Jr. His other projects include Embarcadero Center in San Francisco and the Hilton San Diego Bayfront. The hotel has been featured in movies and television shows, including Remington Steele, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, and It's a Living.
Take the elevator to the thirty-fifth floor, exit, and follow the steps down to the thirty-fourth floor into the Bona Vista. The lounge has panoramic views and rotates 360 degrees. It takes about ninety minutes for a full rotation. A similar experience as Reunion Tower, Dallas.
My Recommendations
STRAIGHT UP
Bombay Sapphire Gin, vermouth dry
and
CHARBROILED ANGUS BEEF BURGER
Swiss cheese, butter lettuce, heirloom
tomato and crispy fries (I asked for fruit rather than fries.)
The Bona Vista Lounge is a good perch to see the city Christmas lights. Go at sunset and watch the lights come on downtown.
