Dr. Richard P. Mungo, DDS Deserves a Cookie

It probably sounds a bit perplexing that a dentist deserves a cookie. Here is why I think it makes a lot of sense that Dr. Richard Mungo has earned the cookie award. The other day someone asked if I knew a good dentist for children. My first thought was Dr. Mungo, my dentist from childhood. Most important to him is his own wife and six children. Before opening his private practice he attended the University of Akron, Case Western Reserve, and the University of Southern California. Dr. Mungo also served in the United States Navy. Additionally, he has taught and lectured at the University of Southern California, Cypress College, and Orange Coast College. If that is not enough Dr. Mungo was on the Olympic Medical Advisory Committee, is the Dental Merit Badge Counselor for the Boy Scouts of America, and serves as the official dentist for Disneyland.
Have you heard of Healthy Smiles for Kids? The organization brings dental services to children in need through their Smile Center, Smile Clinic, and Smile Mobile. Dr. Mungo formed a partnership with Jack Shaw, retired Vice Chairman of Deloitte & Touche, to found Healthy Smiles for Kids. His approach to patient care is wholistic and he aims to work with the whole family. "When patients have cardiac problems, or are receiving chemotherapy or radiation therapy, it is certainly reflected in the mouth. A patient cannot get a kidney or bone marrow transplant if there are dental diseases."
