Delectable Eats: Plumeria Cafe Review by Jesse Bluma

Delectable Eats: Plumeria Cafe Review

“With an abundance of neighborhood charm, Plumeria Cafe offers delectable upscale pairings to guests and soon-to-be regulars…

Fresh California and Hawaiian-inspired cuisine, accompanied by a handful of specially selected wines, has already got Laguna Design Center area locals lining up.

Menu items include roasted chicken salad with ‘perfect' Asian sesame dressing, fresh made ceviche, lettuce wraps, Kabli ribletts, a Hawaiian roasted chicken ramen, specialty pastas, home-made soups, sandwiches and island chilaquiles.”

Plumeria is owned by Nixon and Ovita Tanuwidjaja, the formative owners behind Stacks Pancake Houses and Scrambler Cafe.  Plumeria Cafe offers menu items such as Blueberry Ricotta Pancakes, authentic Hawaiian Loco Moco (thick hamburger patty, fried egg, and gravy), and Banana and Nutella Crepes.

Dine inside or dine in the appealing outdoor courtyard.   The stylish outdoor patio includes large and smaller size tables, a large water feature, and contemporary landscape.  A tranquil setting for breakfast, brunch, or lunch.  After dining visit some of the showrooms in the design center.

Several items on the menu stand out after a few visits.

A Fun Raiser: Einstein’s Restaurant

A Fun Raiser: Einstein’s Restaurant

*Update: Unfortunately, Einstein's closed in October of 2021.

A must eats in Midtown, Atlanta, Georgia.  Einstein’s is located within a genial walk from the business district, Piedmont Park, cultural landmarks, colleges, and the art’s scene.  The restaurant is nestled between large trees on their grand patio and provides flavorful menu items for breakfast, a prominent brunch, lunch, and dinner.

“Einstein’s is a full-service restaurant located in the heart of Midtown, Atlanta.  Since 1991, we have offered innovative, competitively-priced cuisine in a warm, accommodating environment. Consistently praised as Atlanta's best brunch and patio restaurant, Einstein’s also offers some of the most unique group and private dining spaces in the city.”

Reserve a table on the enjoyable patio.  Or pull up to the inside bar to good eats and drinks.  Bison burgers, house-made smoked salmon, and farro cakes share the menu with blueberry buttermilk pancakes, sweet potato fries, and applewood-smoked bacon.  The Einstein theme is revealed throughout the menu of new American items of creative spins on sandwiches, soups, omelets, and more.

Midtown Atlanta is a locale with great culture, community, and with rich history.  A former pine forest, the area today is home to commerce, neighborhoods, shopping, a large 200 acre park, music, museums, and sports events.  Einstein’s industrious staff, unique shaded patio, and excellent menu items makes this a fun dining experience in Midtown.

My Recommendations

1.  The restaurant is located at 1077 Juniper Street NE Atlanta, Georgia 30309.  This is a drivable distance from Buckhead, the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, and Emory University.

2.  Peak times occur on weekends and during special events in the city.  Make reservations to ensure a table.

3.  The menu at Einstein’s has an array of choices with dishes featuring heirloom mixed greens, house-made potato chips, and chorizo sausage.  The following were my favorites.

The Wicked Spoon: Where to Start Your Vegas Adventure

The Wicked Spoon: Where to Start Your Vegas Adventure

“A bustling culinary food hall, the Wicked Spoon delivers well-crafted original selections for every appetite.  With its mix of top quality, familiar staples and imaginative seasonal dishes, this Las Vegas eatery satisfies cravings and invites discovery.”

Wicked Spoon is located in The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.  When the hotel and casino was erected on the west side of the Las Vegas Boulevard, it triggered heads to turn, enticed a new crowd, and filled a niche.  The Cosmo’s two towers, casino spa and casino beach club, give Vegas goers a kinetic resort for fun, play, and dining.

The buffet is handsomely designed with golds, browns, and oranges, stylistic decorative features on the walls and gilding the ceiling.  The chefs at Wicked Spoon create small plates and spoonfuls of food items, in bold contrast to many other buffets and restaurants.  The cuisine includes foods from America, Mexico, and Asia. This allows each diner to personalize, portion out, and enjoy a wide variety of options.  A liberating concept and welcome experience in a town of excess and overabundance.  Highlights of the restaurant are the carving station, ceviche, Asian food bar, and the desserts.  The service I experienced was excellent.  The waiter and staff was attentive, anticipated when my party needed something, and worked hard.

My Recommendations

1.  The Wicked Spoon is located at 3708 South Las Vegas Boulevard, Las Vegas, Nevada.  This is a walkable distance from other hotels and casinos, such as Caesars Palace and The LINQ.  From further distances use a taxi or car service.

2.  Peak times occur during week days and nights, especially on weekends and after shows within the casinos.  Dining before or after peak times can ensure a more pleasant mealtime.

3.  The daily bottomless brunch with mimosas and Bloody Mary's is an excellent way to indulge and start your day in Las Vegas.

4.  Several of the buffet items at Wicked Spoon are tempting, including the pancakes, sausages, and their famous desserts.  The bone marrow on my visit was too oily for my liking, although many other diners have enjoyed a better experience with it.  The following were my favorites.

Pork and chicken from the carving station

Omelet with applewood smoked bacon

Hash House A Go Go: “Twisted Farm Food”

Hash House A Go Go: “Twisted Farm Food”

Buttermilk biscuits. Fried chicken.  Smoked bacon.  Served on plates the size of the state of Indiana.  Hash House A Go Go is the creation of executive chef Craig “Andy” Beardslee and former musician and San Diego restaurateur Johnny Rivera.  The menu marries the heart the Midwest with mad flare.

“Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, Hash House A Go Go puts a unique spin on each meal of the day.  We keep food fun while pulling from the experiences of farm fresh agriculture, livestock and old recipes with a twist.  Casual by day, we serve up flapjacks and farm benedicts for breakfast.  Lunch offers our famous Hash House stuffed burgers among many other great farm fresh classics.   For dinner, we offer upscale dining in a relaxed atmosphere.  Dinner dishes range from homemade chicken pot pie to braised slow-cooked barbecue pork ribs to a 14 oz. New York steak.”

Critics, such as Martha Stewart, Las Vegas Weekly, and The New York Post, have enjoyed dining at Hash House A Go Go.  The original location is in San Diego, California.  Other locations include Las Vegas, Nevada, Chicago, Illinois, Orlando, Florida, Mohegan Sun, Connecticut, Reno, Nevada, and Plano, Texas.

Recommendations

1.  Hash House A Go Go at The LINQ is located at 3535 Las Vegas Boulevard, Las Vegas, Nevada.  This is a walkable distance from other hotels and casinos, such as The Cosmopolitan.  From further distances use a taxi or car service.

2.  Peak times occur during week days and nights, especially weekend nights and after shows within the casinos.  Make reservations to ensure a table.  Hash House A Go Go is a top spot to dine after a late night in Vegas.

3.  Share a meal.  Not joke.  The menu items at HHAGG are beyond generous in size.  The vast majority of people do not finish their meals.  Go hungry, choose an item to share with a friend or family member, and be prepared to take a box of leftovers to your hotel room if it has a refrigerator.

4.  The menu at HHAGG has many tempting choices, including waffles, house hashes, farm scrambles, pancakes the size of the table, and meatloaf.  The following were my favorites.

Andy's Crispy Sage Fried Chicken Salad:  mixed greens, green apple, blue cheese, caramelized pecans, tomato, sage fried chicken breast and clover honey mango vinaigrette.  This ample size salad and biscuit is plenty for a very famished person.  Order the dressing on the side.

THE BASIC: Two egg breakfast any style, potatoes, fruit and biscuit or toast.  Add
Sausage, Smoked Bacon, or Ham.  This is a substantial meal, satisfying, and perhaps one of the few dishes made for one person to eat.

5.  Many dishes are accompanied by a sprig of fresh rosemary.  A few rosemary leaves in your water makes for a fragrant and flavorful drink in the desert climate.  Also, it is a good idea to save the rosemary for a cocktail or cup of tea later back at your hotel room.

Private Cooking and Baking by Jesse Bluma

Private Cooking and Baking by Jesse Bluma

Enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert.  A private cooking experience includes a collaboration, discussion, and approval of menu items, such as Baked Goods, Latin, Italian, Vegetarian, Sports Nutrition, and Holistic.  After menu item approval groceries will be purchased and the meal prepared in your home.

This in-home experience allows for family dining time, customized meals, and an excellent time with food.

For the best experience here are a few tips and reminders.

First, it is important to communicate what you are looking for, what you don't like, and ideas you have seen.  Good communication, especially good listening, is key to a successful experience.

Next, it is essential we discuss the mood, feeling, and what you envision.  Formal, beachy elegant, Latin, et cetera.

After committing to a concept a price point will be determined based upon the number of items and other necessities.

Thank you,
